I just realized this is the Year of Shadows in cinema with Obsession and this film making the most of the use of them.

There's actually a larger trend of not showing things not just with shadows but having things be just off screen and only seeing the back of people's heads and yeah, the dark hiding anything concrete that gives both these films a super eerie quality that's genuinely earned and from a camera work perspective, very good use of space and the limits thereof.
